Behind the Designs | Entry 06: Where Design Meets Practicality - One Day at a Time

Introducing the first printable daily planner from Sparks & Noises.

Namaste, kind reader! 💙💚

Welcome back to Behind the Designs!

So far, my journey with Sparks & Noises has been about exploring how Indian-inspired geometric artwork can evolve into different products.

But with this sixth entry, I wanted to explore a slightly different question:

Can something designed to be beautiful also make everyday life a little easier?

And that's how One Day at a Time, the first design in my Planner Series 01, came to life.

01 | Bringing Art into Everyday Routines

I've always been fascinated by how design can transform ordinary objects.

For this planner, I took the familiar blue-green geometric pattern from my earlier creations and gave it a new purpose.

Instead of being the main attraction, the intricate pattern became a decorative framework surrounding practical planning spaces.

The challenge was finding the right balance.

Too much ornamentation could make the page overwhelming. Too little, and it would lose the visual identity I've been developing for Sparks & Noises.

I wanted something that felt expressive without sacrificing usability.

02 | Planning More Than Just Tasks

I divided the planner into four simple sections:

  • Priorities: Focus on what matters most.

  • To Do List: Organize the day's tasks.

  • Notes: Capture thoughts and reminders.

  • What I Feel Today: Make space for a little self-reflection.

That last section was particularly important to me.

We often measure our days by how much we accomplish, but I wanted this planner to acknowledge how we feel along the way.

After all, productivity isn't just about checking boxes.

03 | A New Chapter for Sparks & Noises

As a third-year design student, this product reminded me that good design isn't only about aesthetics.

It's about creating something people can actually use.

One Day at a Time is an undated, printable A4 PDF, designed to be used whenever you need a little structure in your day.

And it's just the beginning of my new planner collection!

And before you go, here's a little question:

Do you prefer planners that are minimal and simple, or ones that bring a little colour and personality to your desk?

Until the next design,
