Behind the Designs | Entry 07: When Geometry Finds Its Rhythm

The story behind Geometric Indian Motion Pattern No. 2 - where traditional inspiration meets movement and modern surface design.

Namaste, kind reader! 💙💚

Welcome back to another entry of Behind the Designs!

If you've been following my journey with Sparks & Noises, you'll know that much of my work begins with a single idea: exploring Indian-inspired geometry through different forms and everyday applications.

But this time, I wanted to experiment with something different.

What if a pattern could capture movement without actually moving?

And that's where Geometric Indian Motion Pattern No. 2 began.

01 | From Symmetry to Movement

My first geometric pattern focused on structured medallions, repetition and symmetry.

For Pattern No. 2, I wanted to break away from that stillness.

Inspired by the rhythm and expressive gestures of Indian classical dance, I explored diagonal arrangements and angular geometric forms that create a sense of movement across the surface.

The result? A seamless geometric pattern that feels energetic while retaining the visual identity of the original collection.

02 | The Design Language Continues

I stayed with the familiar electric blue, jade green and white palette that connects Series 1.

But instead of repeating circular motifs, I experimented with direction, overlapping shapes and visual rhythm.

This exploration reminded me that repetition doesn't always have to feel repetitive.

By changing how familiar elements interact, the same design language can tell an entirely different story.

03 | From Digital Art to Surface Design

One of my favourite parts of designing patterns is imagining where they might eventually belong.

A single seamless pattern can become part of textile design, gift wrapping, creative packaging, digital backgrounds or personal craft projects.

That's why I developed Pattern No. 2 as a 12 × 12-inch, 300 DPI seamless digital pattern, available as a high-resolution PDF download.

It isn't just an illustration to look at. It's a creative resource that can be adapted across different surfaces.

04 | Five Patterns. One Visual Story.

Pattern No. 2 is part of my ongoing Geometric Indian Pattern Series 1, a collection of five coordinated surface designs.

Each pattern explores a different arrangement of the same Indian-inspired geometric language.

For me, this series is an exercise in understanding how much variety can emerge from a consistent visual identity.

Same inspiration. Same colours. A completely different rhythm.

05 | Explore the Design

If you enjoy Indian-inspired geometric art, seamless repeat patterns or experimenting with surface design, I'd love for you to explore this latest creation.

And here's a little question before you go:

Do you prefer perfectly symmetrical patterns or designs that feel full of movement and energy?

Until the next design,
